One of the first things we noticed when touring and buying our bus was the front door that didn’t close quite right. We could see that it was “a bit” bent and didn’t align with the frame of the bus correctly. We didn’t think too much of it at the time. A body shop would be able to fix that right up, no big deal. We bought the bus and went on our way.
Well, it turns out it was a much bigger deal than we thought. I won’t rehash the whole story in this blog post because it is a story told much better in person...or in video in this case. But here are just a few highlights to whet your appetite: body shop guy giving the door the side-eye, new old stock door that made me cry, door flying open on the freeway, using garage door parts to seal the door, digging through a scrap yard to find a new handle and lock, and more.
We didn’t video a lot of the actual work we did on the door to get it to at least be functional. Dealing with all the little bits and pieces of this door project have been more emotionally frustrating than almost any other part of this renovation so far, and we honestly just didn’t have it in us most of the time to break out the camera and record it.
So, these videos are a little different than our typical ones. Instead of explaining what we were doing while we were doing it, we decided to have a little storytime. Juan shares the story of our door and all the exciting, frustrating, and just “figure it out” moments that have happened in this project since we first bought the bus. There was so much to it (and we even forgot a couple parts) that we decided to break it up into three videos.
It’s not all sunshine and roses in a bus conversion. Watch and enjoy!
